Pierrefonds-Roxboro is the West Island in its Montreal version: calm streets lined with big trees, the Rivière des Prairies to the north, more nature parks than you know what to do with, and now the REM to whisk you downtown. A family-friendly area that stayed quiet for a long time and deserves a closer look.

The REM, two stations nearby

Since November 17, 2025, the REM connects the area to Central Station with no transfer, from early morning until after midnight. Two stations in the borough, Pierrefonds-Roxboro and Sunnybrooke, with park-and-ride, bike racks and elevators. For daily life as much as resale, it's a game changer.

Cap-Saint-Jacques nature park

Montreal's largest nature park is right here, on Boulevard Gouin: supervised natural beaches on Lac des Deux Montagnes in summer, 14 km of cross-country skiing in winter, a sugar shack in spring. Having a beach in your backyard, on the island of Montreal, not many areas can say that.

Family life

The ecological farm, open year-round

More than 110 animals, organic vegetables and family activities right in the nature park, open year-round. On the same site, the Brunet house (circa 1835) and Gohier castle (circa 1916) are a reminder that this corner has memory. Sunday outings are sorted out for a long time.

The Grand parc de l'Ouest, a giant in the making

Created in 2019, it spans more than 3,000 hectares, about eight times Central Park, making it the largest municipal park in Canada. Several of its nature parks touch Pierrefonds-Roxboro, and the City has acquired 140 hectares of natural areas in the west of the borough to build out this major project.

The forest

Bois-de-Liesse and its century-old trees

A hundred and fifty-nine hectares of forest, partly within the borough: the century-old trees of the Bois-Francs forest, Bertrand creek, boardwalks and trails leading down to the Rivière des Prairies. A real forest without leaving the island, right next door, a luxury that never goes out of style.

The safe bet

The kingdom of the single-family home

Postwar bungalows, split-level homes from the 1960s, cottages, townhouses and newer builds, most often on spacious, green lots. It's the classic family West Island: space, schools, nature, and now the REM as a bonus. The single-family market here stays quite active.

The local spirit

A bilingual, family way of life

Some 70,400 residents, a multicultural fabric and a unique status: it's the only borough in Montreal officially bilingual in French and English. Born from the merger of Pierrefonds and Roxboro in 2002, the area cultivates its calm streets, schools and neighbourhood parks, with City of Montreal services.

Ask me about it: ask me where the name "Pierrefonds" comes from, between a member of parliament, a vanished castle built in 1902 and an engraving from France, the story is worth the detour.
