Here, water surrounds you: the Rivière des Prairies to the north, the St. Lawrence River to the south, all the way to the eastern tip of the island. It's one of Montreal's largest boroughs, two neighbourhoods, two moods, and shoreline on both sides. A rare address in the city where the horizon is always on the water.

The Vieux-Moulin, built in 1719

Built between 1719 and 1721 by the Sulpicians and designated a heritage property in 1983, it stands 13 metres tall, the highest French-regime windmill in Quebec. It still watches over the river at the heart of Parc du Vieux-Moulin, scenery you won't find anywhere else in the city.

The village

A 350-year-old village

Pointe-aux-Trembles was founded in 1674, the second parish on the island of Montreal, and celebrated its 350th anniversary in 2024. On Place du Village, by the river, Cité Mémoire lights up at sunset; Notre-Dame Street East, meanwhile, is going through a major redevelopment expected to wrap up in fall 2026.

Nature

Deer right in the city

The Pointe-aux-Prairies nature park spans 261 hectares of marshes and forest, one of Montreal's largest nature parks, where white-tailed deer roam free, confirmed by the City. Summer: 8.4 km of trails. Winter: 12.4 km of cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and sliding hills.

Family life

135 parks, 10 pools and a beach

The City counts 135 parks and green spaces, 95 km of bike paths and 10 outdoor pools. Add Plage de l'Est, opened in 2021: splash pads, kayak rentals and lounging by the river, though swimming in the river itself is still off limits for now.

Transit

Downtown by train, or by river

Two East train stations, Rivière-des-Prairies and Pointe-aux-Trembles, exo line 15, mostly at rush hour, connect the borough to downtown. And in summer, the river shuttle runs from the Maison Beaudry dock to the Old Port in about thirty minutes, bikes welcome.

The safe bet

The kingdom of the single-family home

The City presents the borough as offering the most affordable path to homeownership in Montreal. And the market here is dominated by the single-family home, 144 sales in Q2 2026 according to Centris, ahead of condos, a rare profile on the island: bungalows and cottages with a real yard.
